Occhio Portfolio — Seth Ascetic, Taichung’s Premier Private Club
By Occhio Store Taiwan
Sunlight, air, and water—often cited as the three essentials of life—all share a defining trait: only when they’re gone do we realize their true value.
In today's world, where artificial lighting underpins modern life and enables social progress, light has become as foundational as daylight itself—an unspoken presence from morning to night. Yet what we expect from light goes far beyond mere brightness.
The pursuit of beauty is a distinctly human instinct. From hairstyles and clothing to interiors and the atmosphere of a space, beauty is endlessly redefined—and lighting is its silent enabler. Without the right light, beauty falters. It becomes not only a matter of illumination, but a compromise of aesthetic and cultural sophistication.
For Zhang Shih-Hung, CEO of the elite private club Seth Ascetic, such compromise is never an option.
“When we first turned on the lights, I knew something was wrong,” Zhang recalls, standing in the entrance corridor of Seth Ascetic and glancing toward the ceiling.
“The lights were bright—but the textures of the carpet and the wall completely disappeared. The entire atmosphere lost its depth.”
It was a revelation: when light is wrong, everything else feels diminished. Determined to restore what had been lost, Zhang turned to Occhio.
“The reason we chose to partner with Occhio is because we knew they could deliver the right products and service,” he says. Lighting may not be his personal area of expertise, which made working with a brand that combines German precision with aesthetic refinement all the more essential. Occhio, to him, was the final puzzle piece for completing his vision of perfection.
He gestures to a wall veneered with wood, its surface hand-scraped by a Taiwanese artist. Under the light, every groove and grain comes alive.
“Occhio’s luminaires don’t just offer light that rivals natural daylight—they highlight the purest beauty of each artwork and material. The light itself becomes a design element.”
Whether it’s the undulating wall panels flanking the entry or the flowing contours of sculptural furniture, Occhio’s light reveals the narrative tension—like the turning points in a gripping story.
Light ripples across the corridor carpet like water, silent yet dynamic.
Chi Wei-Kang, creative director at Seth Ascetic, credits Occhio’s precision tools and visual simulations for the space’s current transformation—elegant, luminous, yet never glaring.
“Rather than relying on subjective design instincts, we trusted Occhio’s scientific lighting data and realistic simulations to help us achieve exactly what we envisioned,” he says.
But Seth Ascetic demanded even more:
“From the beginning, we wanted the hallway to serve as both a lounge and a runway,” Chi explains. “So the lighting needed to be flexible, never static.”
They recently hosted a floral art class, with a pop-up event soon to follow. Thanks to Occhio’s Bluetooth-enabled fixtures, lighting adjustments—from brightness to mood—are just a tap away.
“No matter the activity or new artwork on display, we can easily adapt the lighting using mobile control.”
June Lin, Head of Marketing at Occhio Store Taiwan, adds:
“Occhio air offers an intuitive user interface. Whether we’re illuminating the textured walls with Più piano or using lui piano down the corridor, scene modes can be saved and triggered at the touch of a button.”
For multi-purpose high-end spaces, Occhio is the ultimate choice—where function meets finesse.
Zhang opens a video on his phone showcasing luxury fitness centers abroad, outlining his aspirations for Seth Ascetic and its continued collaboration with Occhio.
“Some might say those are only possible overseas, but I believe we can do it—and do it with our own identity.”
Has he received praise from clients about the lighting? Zhang smiles.
“Let’s just say, when your most discerning clientele has no complaints—that’s the best compliment you can get.”
Like sunlight, air, and water, Occhio’s lighting is simply essential—not needing applause, only presence. Moving forward, Occhio will continue to illuminate the space for ever-evolving exhibitions, photography, paintings, and installations, enabling the storytelling of art and space to unfold without end.
