Prologue
Before this letter is sent —
Light is emotional. Emotion is the soul of light.
The moment a beam of light enters our eyes, it becomes a connection — transcending time and speaking directly to our emotions.
It’s often said that the most beautiful light comes from nature.
So how is it that Occhio creates light that rivals the natural world?
Beyond our exclusive technologies, something deeper fuels us.
This is why Occhio invites those who share a passion for light to write letters to it — to live in its rhythm, to breathe with its flow.
These words radiate warmth — quietly capturing moments, sharing beauty, and reflecting light itself.
A LETTER TO LIGHT
Everyone has a personal answer to what light means.
When light gently falls into a corner, it feels like a friend —
soft, thoughtful, warm, and full of spirit — quietly listening to our hearts.
Writer No.1 — Samoon Xia
Architect, writer, and visual storyteller —
a true chaser of light who sees the world through a poetic lens.
Dear Light,
Writing a letter to you —
what a curious feeling this is.
When I look at a person and feel that they’re glowing, it’s as if they’ve illuminated a part of the world. That feeling is magical.Seeing a building can stir similar emotions.
At this moment, one particular building reminds me of another I saw seven or eight years ago — similar stone façades, similar formal design.
It makes me think: perhaps architectural form isn’t always the most important thing.
What stays in my mind is the sensation of sunlight in a peaceful living room, filtered through carved windows in a stone wall.I’m not a lover of classical forms, but still the words appeared in my mind:
“Filtered light is the most beautiful, and buildings with emotion are the most moving.”That emotion may be something only humans can give.
We are, after all, emotional creatures at our core.
If I could describe that emotional core,
I’d compare it to light traveling through dust —
gently sweeping away the shadows within us.It’s a quiet power, moving unhurriedly and far.
Many years have passed.
And even now, in the present, we still rely on artificial light to push back the darkness — and with it, our loneliness and fear.A single light can guide and inspire even the most distant stranger.
After a long, quiet night, winter sunlight returns to the city streets —
and suddenly, every passerby becomes radiant.
So many people are glowing. From Samoon — 2021.12.12
Occhio’s Light Aesthetic
To encounter light is to begin a journey through life in motion.
More letters from light-chasers will follow in the future —
and among those waiting with you is none other than Axel Meise, founder of Occhio, who has been captivated by light since the beginning.
From its inception, Occhio has never seen “light” as merely a scientific concept —
not just a stream of photons along a specific frequency.
Instead, we treat light as a living presence.
To Occhio, light has the power to shape human emotion.
It influences how we feel — even when we don’t realize it.
For over 22 years, under Axel’s guidance, Occhio has combined rigorous innovation with emotional design —
creating light that not only illuminates,
but lives —
ushering in an entirely new lighting philosophy.
