PERSONAL EXPERIENCE-

Born in 1961, Thomas O 'Brien graduated from Cooper Union University in New York, where he studied photography, art and design. After he earned his degree, he worked at Details magazine for a short time before starting his career at Ralph Lauren. He designed Ralph Lauren's flagship store (both styling and design) on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. He then helped design Ralph Lauren's private country home in Deford, New York.

ln 1992, Thomas O 'Brien established his design company Aviation Studio and the adjacent Aviation Shop with his alumnus William Sofield. When Sofield left the airline in 1995, O 'Brien became its sole owner.

Through Aero Studios, O'Brien has designed numerous lofts and formal apartments, traditional estates and modern architectural homes across the country.

DESIGN THINKING-

"I look for classic elements from past generations and edit them together for this one. It's an American idea of reinvention: traditional things for modern living.“

“What’s modern to me isn’t austerity; it’s just a sharper focus on shape and line, scale and coloration that reveals the character of the material itself.”

"You experience a table lamp from so many angles, not just head-on," says designer Alexandra Champalimaud. "The best ones have character and punctuate or balance a space. They're a great way to bring color, materials, scale, and a subtle sense of architecture into a room.

”Designing anything, from the details of a lamp to the interiors of a whole estate, is still an art project to me. It is always a learning process: fun, hopeful, considered, and a little bit reverent. It is to know the past in order to invent something new for the time of now.“

Suspended above the table, a composition of Luna pendants casts ripples of warm light.

In the lounge, the Mito largo floor lamp defines intimate zones with light,
while the nearby Luna parete wall fixture echoes softly—
subtly dividing the tea space and dining area, while maintaining an invisible connection.
